Greetings Hartford Argentine Tango Society and The Garage Dance Studio & Gallery!
Effective January 29 2017, Sue Martucci and I will be retiring from organizing Tango for HARTS. On that date, Garage Dance Studio owner, Muna Swairjo will assume all organizational responsibilities for HARTS. Muna is well qualified to do this since she loves tango, loves her community and she has been mentored in organizing tango by Susan and I for the last few years. We hope that you will give Muna the very same love and support that you have given Susan and I.
Of course, this does NOT mean that we are retiring from the dance scene! It simply means that we will not be organizing dance. We intend to stay active and participate in many dance events (especially tango) with all the many wonderful dance communities that Connecticut and beyond has to offer. Our retirement from organizing will simply afford us more time to do these things. Spare time, for Susan and I, will be at a premium since we are preparing for a retirement and move from the northeast in 2017.
This year marked the tenth anniversary of Susan and I forming HARTS and we have found the experience to be extremely rewarding. We did not do it for personal gain or prestige and we always tried to do things that we felt were in the best interests of our tango community. Ironically, the things that we are most proud of have nothing to do with tango but rather how HARTS has brought so many people together. We have watched friendships and long term relationships grow, not to mention all the wonderful new friends that we have made! It has all been extremely gratifying.
We want to extend a special thank you to all of the wonderful teachers that we have had the pleasure to work with (far too numerous to mention). Our goal has always been to engage teachers that are not only great dancers, but wonderful people as well. We believe we have succeeded in that endeavor. We also give a very special thank you to our local teachers, Christopher Kilkenny and Diana Lyn Cote who volunteer so much of their time to the dance community.
If you have made it this far, We also want to thank our mentors. They are Jackie Ling Wong of Tango Pulse (now retired from organizing), Judy Phelps of the New Haven tango community and Michele Evans of the Hartford Ballroom. We will always be grateful to those three for their kindness and contributions to the dance community.
Friends, Susan and I will not close this message with goodbye or farewell. Instead, we say Abrazzos! See you all on the dance floor.
